The Idaho Sheriffs' Association represents all 44 sheriffs in the state. Our purpose is to facilitate information between state and local law enforcement agencies, the Idaho Department of Correction, the Idaho Juvenile Department of Corrections, the Idaho legislature and the citizens we serve.
The Association participates in drug prevention and eradication programs and provides professional training at our quarterly conferences to enable sheriffs and their staff to better perform their duties. The Association also provides annual jail inspections and certifies those facilities in compliance with constitutionally mandated standards. A jail compliance plan is initiated for those jails not in compliance. The Association is involved in the legislative process working with law enforcement officers, prosecutors and other interested parties to ensure appropriate legislation is passed that supports citizen safety.

In December 2008, the Idaho unemployment rate reached 6.4 percent (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Why should we care about marijuana grows on public land?
- Every year there have been increasing number of reports of hikers, hunters and campers being intimidated by marijuana growers.
- These campers, hikers and hunters are at risk of being assaulted or shot by marijuana growers trying to protect their illegal crop.
- Law enforcement continues to seize firearms and booby traps which pose deadly threats.
- Marijuana growers typically live in the forest for extended periods of time often leaving garbage and destroying the surrounding pristine areas where harvesting is taking place.
