deputies hand. In today's world, communication science is changing so rapidly that by the time a new system is implemented, it's already covered in ancient dust.
The evening news is replete with stories of change such as global weather which is less predictable than ever as evidenced by the increased frequency of hurricanes and their severity in the past decade. The global economy is reeling under the strain of enormous deficits, and few have escaped layoffs, furloughs and budget cuts. The war on drug cartels in Mexico has reached new heights as the cartel is now attacking the Mexican military. We see evidence that this fight is spilling over the border, and cartel members are threatening to kill American law enforcement officers in retaliation for previous arrests and seizures.
These are indeed challenging times! We must all be committed to working smarter and harder. We must embrace change rather than fearing it, learning to act with clarity and confidence, rather than reacting and hesitating in our response.
Change is not new to the world, but the rapid pace of today's transformations challenge all of us. The Idaho Sheriff's Association is dedicated to keeping its membership properly informed and trained to recognize and respond to difficult situations. The dialog and interaction between Sheriffs is an essential component of our achievements. No matter how long you have been Sheriff, or how large or small your organization, each of us brings invaluable experience to the table. Sharing our experiences and knowledge prepares us to adapt to new environments and successfully lead our organizations into the 21st Century.
